EXCERPT 1: For example, when the Register’s editorial board asked Blum about a bill that would quite literally use tax credits to reimburse American businesses for the cost of complying with all federal laws and regulations, Blum initially seemed unfamiliar with the legislation — although he is the bill’s lone sponsor. But then he went on to defend it, arguing that the government is “strangling” businesses with burdensome regulations. He seems unaware, or at least unconcerned, that his bill could cost the U.S. Treasury billions of dollars.

EXCERPT 2: Vernon said she would support Planned Parenthood and women’s reproductive rights, while Blum supported efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and voted in favor of the fraudulently named Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. “We must ensure that children born alive during abortions receive equivalent medical treatment as babies who are born in hospitals,” he said.

EXCERPT 3: His Democratic opponent, Cedar Rapids city councilwoman Monica Vernon, lacks Blum’s two years of experience in Congress, but she is better informed than her opponent on some of the key issues facing the House and Senate. She also has spent years in the trenches, working on the public’s behalf at a grassroots, local level and helping lead the fight to secure federal funding for Cedar Rapids’ flood-protection efforts.

Monica Vernon has an established track record of working for the public and advocating for their interests. The Des Moines Register endorses Monica Vernon for the U.S. House of Representatives.
